Project Amsterdam?

So things have been pretty tough here..I had a contract fall through at the last minute which was infuriating now it looks like I will be offered a contract in the Netherlands (Possible for 3 months). I don't know if I should take it cause It will be moving to a country where I don't know anyone. Anyways I will make a more comprehensive post in the next few days.

Agents and the games they play.

So the agent who organized me the interview tomorrow told me that the guy was only getting back from America tomorrow morning yet he phones me this morning to tell me the position has been filled. Aaaaaargh. Anyways you win some you lose some just gotta keep on looking and the position was a permanent one not a contract like I'm looking for so I guess it all worked out for the best.

Loning it in London

Whatsup my peeps its been a while since an update.

So finding a job has been harder then I thought but I finally seem to be getting somewhere. Apparently some guy thought that my CV was the best he had seen for a specific job (But this is agent talk so we will see) anyways I did a technical test this weekend I think I did well and I should have an interview on Thursday/Friday (unless I made a cockup of epic proportion in the technical test)

Otherwise London is fantabulous its like living in a different world I turned sky to a "African news channel" and low and behold there was the SABC 1 news cant believe some of the shit that goes on back home.

Living alone for the past ten days or so has been a very cool experience if a little lonely but hopefully ill make more friend when I get a job and move (get kicked) out of the place I'm staying at the end of the week. I have already found some Jewish youth hostel type thing for £380 or so a month which is actually very good forLondonn

I went to go visit the Big Ben clock tower and the London millenniumm) Eye onThursday it was very cool but at £12.50 for a ride (on the eye not the clock) it was a little to pricey for me until I find a job

Im going to the Tate modern artmuseumem tomorrow which should be really cool, all the major museums here are all free to get into which is also cool.

Well iv got an interestingng week ahead Ill post any interestingng developments to me blog.

Solo Subway

So im really loving this London thing....

there are hundreds of different places all buzzing with activity it really is amazing

I took my first subway ride solo yesterday it was quite intimidating at first I even got a little lost but then someone from tfl (Transport For London) saw me starring at this map on the wall in a tube station with this very confused look on my face and he came and helped me get home. I am starting to get a hang of this whole underground thing. It really is quite amazing that you can get anywhere easily without a car and not more then a 10 minute walk. When I first got here the first thing I purchased was a Week transport pass for zones 1, 2 and 3 for £25 and I haven't had to pay a pence (or cent for u folks back in s.a) for transport since. Need to take a bus or train I need to take?Just whip out the pass its pretty cool and great value for money. There also millions of these big red bussed all over the place its mind-blowing like you wont wait at a bus stop for more then 10 minutes.

I went to this really cool burger bar tonight called Gourmet Burger Kitchen fan-fucking-tastic burgers...Best iv ever had! WOW!
BTW I would appreciatee it if my loyal readers left an occasionall comment, you know they there for a reason. I changed the settings on the blog so anyone can post a comment (Youdon't need to log in or create an account or any of that crap) So youdon't have any excuses.

More to come soon!

About the trip.

Ok so you want the lowdown on the trip henceforth known as the "Epic Journey" Well let us start of with the reasons.

The Reasons

1) I am now 23 years old and have been living at home my whole life. Leaving home is something I need to do to grow as a person.

2) Uncertain future in South Africa I need to check some other places out, make some contacts and just see if the grass really is greener on the other side. S.A could become a great place to live or it could turn to complete shit. I need to keep my options open. Also due to Affirmative Action Black Economic Empowerment (Note the subtle difference) It has become very hard for white males to find jobs. Even if you run a company larger then a certain size you need quotas of ownership, management etc The same if you want to tender for large contracts.

3) The general state of lawlessness in the country. Every day you hear a story of someone being hijacked or shot or something. Not the kind of place to raise kids. We live in our own jails everyone has High Walls electric fencing, electric gates, alarm systems and Armed responses. All in all quite a hostile environment! Designed to keep the badies out not in. Overall this doesn't do much for community relations as people tend to develop a siege mentality. Is the grass greener on the other side? Only one way to find out!

Anyways Enough of me justifying the reasons for me going to check out this strange and foreign land

The plan

  • Depart South Africa from Jhb international airport at 21:20 PM (CAT) Monday the 16th of Aug 2005 (Zero Hour)
  • Arrive United Kingdom Heathrow 07:30 AM (GMT) Meet 1 x Younger Sister at Airport
  • Find a Job doing java/j2ee
  • Pimp The Hoes
  • Take over the world
Other then that I am going to play it by ear.

Thoughts, Comments? Let me know! Use the comment button below and maybe we can even engage in some intelligent debate (Although that is highly unlikely)

The final countdown!

Ok so its just 12 days beforce I embark on this epic journey.

Im feeling nervous, anxious but must of all EXCITED all at the same time.
more to come soon!
